Perhaps between Skipton and Harrogate or near Skipton, an odd name The ---- Cow. Unable to find by Googling.

There's one called The Spotted Cow somewhere near Skipton. Or, there was one there 20+ years ago.

Thanks, but it's not that. It's a really strange word. The pub is adjacent to a burial ground, maybe a humanist one or one where you arrange your own burials.

I've stayed there; I don't think it's The --- Bull.
The Cock and Bottle?
Tarn Moor Memorial Woodland is next to The Craven Heifer.
That must be it Mamya - I used to go to the Craven Heifer when I lived Bingley way.
You can tell that Mamya is good at crosswords with lateral thinking like that!

^^ PS 'Craven' doesn't mean cowardly, Coppit, it's the name of the area. We competed in Craven Area Sports for example.
I remember it because we have(or had) a Craven Heifer in Bolton.

Not sure how common a name it is.
Gosh, Buen - just looked at the link - it's smartened up a bit! It was always a pleasant place.
The origin of the pub name:

Has anyone heard of a Cock and Bottle pub before? I haven't.
I think I once had that one in a Pub name quiz.
That name derives fron the tap on the barrel, plus bottle of course.

Cock and Bottle, or simply Cock: The stopcock used to serve beer from a barrel, and a beer bottle

That's it, The Craven Heifer. Thanks all.
Yes LB, there's a Cock and Bottle at Morden just a few miles from me :-)
Oh I remember the Craven Heifer in Bingley!
