We're off this week!! Has anyone experience of taking a UK mobile to the States and buying a SIM card for use in the US, rather than paying extortionate rates on my UK phone? I have an old Galaxy S6 which was registered on EE and wonder of I could make use of it by dropping into Walmart and buying a SIM.

If your handset deals with US frequencies, and it should these days, then that ought to be fine. (That stated, check the SIM card sizes in common use there to ensure you can fit one.)
Remember your phone may be locked to EE and may not work if you put a SIM from another company in it.
Ring EE to see if they have a package for the US. Whilst I was in Chicago last year, I used my phone at the same prices that it would have cost me here. Great, it was.
Good point, you may wish to get the handset unlocked first.

Use widely available free wifi if your phone is internet capable. If it isn't then why not simply switch it off for the duration ?
