The boss of a Somerset bus company has taken his fleet off the road without warning and sent a note to staff saying: “I have had enough and realise I cannot work with you a moment longer.”

He may hate his employees - his failure at least as much as theirs - but in his place I would find it difficult to justify my treatment of hundreds of passengers, including schoolchildren. More than 300 students were affected across four schools. His response? "F*** it".

The least that he could have done is to set a closing date to give people a chance to prepare.

The guy is either a thoughtless eejit or on the edge of a breakdown.
You have to feel for the employees, what a shock.
that's pretty harsh way to treat your employees
Looks like he hit breaking point.
I think this boy's cheese has done slid off his cracker.
There are probably quite a few bosses out there who can sympathise with this man. Agree that the execution was wrong but understand how people can push you to the brink.
From reading the link the man obviously has mental health issues.
I don't see that Eddie, just sounds like a man who has reached the end of tether trying to run a small/medium business. The red tape is onerous and trying to keep staff on diminishing returns can be a nightmare.
Could you point to specifics which lead to that diagnosis, Eddie?

I imagine he's had to deal with the usual butt scratching work dodgers every day and is in the position to draw the line.
Your range of expertise is breathtaking Eddie.
^ He could have given the council notice that he was withdrawing from the contract , tried to find a buyer or at least given his workers the legally required notice.
To simply lock up and walk out indicates that he has a problem.
Ellipsis for BA...never heard that one before :)
Eddie, he could have done many things but he did what he did. To jump to the conclusion that it is a mental health issue is a leap too far.

Have you ever had a '***' moment?
He's left a lot of people high and dry and no doubt, quite angry and upset.

*** = 'clump of earth' it moment.
Ellipisis has said exactly the same as I did , yet I do not notice the same skepticism over his opinion?
Yeah...the problem being he hit breaking point. That isn't an indicator of mental illness.
I read in the link that the administrators are looking for assets, why on earth can't they look for a buyer?

What hours did this bus service run? 24 hours or less?

Our local little bus operates from 8 am til 6pm and seems to be doing ok, apart from a few years ago when it wasn't financially viable to run from my village to the 'wee town'.
''I think this boy's cheese has done slid off his cracker''

^ Quote from the movie The Green Mile (which by strange coincidence is also a place in Somerset).
cheese slid off my cracker once, was a sad sad moment
