I watched an episode of the new drama series Paula the other day. The newspaper review said it was set in Belfast, but all currency mentioned on the programme was in euros. I'm confused. I thought NI was still part of the UK so use pounds sterling. Can someone set me right, please?

I've put this in chatterbank because I didn't know whether it best belonged in Media and TV or Finance.

I'd expect, for commercial reasons, they'd accept them and spend them over the border. I'm not in NI but as part of the UK they'd use £s officially.
My family lives very close to the border with the Free State Jo, and I think Euros are welcome in most of the shops....its a pragmatic stance I am guessing.
