Japanese Baths/onsen And Tattoos

I am visiting Japan in a few weeks and plan to visit a few public baths or onsen. I know you have to be completely naked but I have a few tattoos which I know are frowned-upon in Japan. None are huge or offensive (all animals) but I am not sure how I should try to cover them - plasters/bandages or perhaps a concealer type cosmetic?

Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thank you.
