Ditto Post Office,no charges.
ATM when you get there.

Apart from those hidden in a mediocre exchange rate
I have always used Ramsdens, no complaints

i have never heard of ramsdens - are they shops or do you send off?
Thought it was a fish and chip shop!
ICE is often best.
Unsure where I read it now, probably the Martin Lewis site maybe ? But the better deals were done mail order/internet/something like that, and you pick the money up at the port. Might be worth checking the site and searching for the info.
This holiday or business ?
How much are we talking about? for £100 or so the diffrence is £1 or £2 so you may as well just go to the nearest place and save the travel cost and time.
The 'best' provider varies daily (and is also dependent upon the amount that you want to exchange).

However services which allow you to order online but then collect your money in-store often have some of the best rates. For example, you get a better rate with the Post Office when you order online (and then collect in your local Post Office) than you do by simply ordering your money over the counter:

(That's where I'd check first but also watch out for special deals in Tesco and Asda)
PS: The best place to get Euros can sometimes be from your mate in the pub or a work colleague. If you know someone who has returned from the Euro area and who wants to exchange their foreign notes back into sterling, using an exchange rate mid-way between the 'buy' and 'sell' rates advertised by the Post Office (or similar) will leave you both in profit.
Ramsdens are a "buy your gold" etc shop.

Doing a comparison just now 1.188 Euro in Post Office, 1.1975 in Ramsdens
I read a feature about exchange rates some years ago and the company Eurochange got very good reviews. They are offering 1.20 at the moment.
Anywhere but the Post Office,Rates are shocking.

>>>if you don't need to carry hard cash

. . . in that case I'd simply advise using your normal debit card at overseas ATMs (or, of course, in shops and restaurants). You'll probably get charged for it but (because of a better exchange rate) be no worse off than buying Euros in the UK anyway.
