Holiday To The Ardceche, France

Looking to fly out to the nearest airport with the cheapest flights to spend time in the Ardeche. Currently looking at Nimes, any other suggestions and also do the flights get cheaper closer to the date (thinking end of August 2013) or should we book now!!!! Don't remember flights being this expensive in previous years, whats happened to £1 flights!!!

Flights to France have gone expensive from certain airports. I usually fly Manchester to Perpignan which would have been £560 (RyanAir) for me and my son.
I looked around and am now going from Gatwick to Montpellier with Sleazyjet for £370.
We had also considered the Eurostar then TGV, unsure if that's an option for you though?

Nimes is only served by Ryanair, from Luton and (seasonally) from Liverpool.

Lyon is served by BMI Regional from Birmingham & Manchester, by BA from Heathrow and by easyJet from Edinburgh, Gatwick &Stansted.

Grenoble is served (seasonally) by easyJet from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Gatwick, Luton & Stansted, by FlyBe from Southampton, by Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford & Manchester, by Monarch from Birmingham, Leeds/Bradford, Gatwick & Manchester, and by Ryanair from Stansted.

Marseille is served by BA from Heathrow, by easyJet from Gatwick & Bristol and by Ryanair from Edinburgh, Stansted and East Midlands.

Avignon is served by FlyBe from Birmingham & Southampton, and by Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford.

Book as early as possible!

£1 flights went a few years ago when airlines had to show the real cost. (If you remember you always had to add taxes etc so your flight never actually cost £1). Of course it's not the total cost if you want to take luggage in the hold or take out travel insurance with the airline............

Just a quick postscript ('cos I was rushing to post before AB went down for maintenance at 2100 when I posted yesterday):

Montpelier Airport is served by easyJet from Gatwick and (seasonally) from Luton. Ryanair fly there (seasonally) from Birmingham and Leeds/Bradford.

It takes around 6 hours to get from St Pancras International to Avignon by train with a transfer between Gare du Nord and Gare du Lyon in Paris. However between 6 July and 31 August there's a non-stop direct train, in each direction, on Saturdays. (It also runs inbound on 7 September). Return fares are usually between about £140 and £200.
