I want to go on holiday for my birthday in January. We want to go somewhere with good weather and somewhere that won't break the bank, in the past we have been to Tenerife , but I fancy a change but don't want a long haul flight. Has anyone any suggestions. Thanks.

The Canaries are probably your best bet for the weather. My daughter is off to Lanzarote in January.
Egypt's Red Sea resorts, Southern Tunisia, Cape Verde/The Gambia?
try Goa, though fare not cheap, very cheap once your there.
You are likely to get a good deal in Egypt as many tourists are being put off by the civil unrest. The Red Sea resorts have not been affected, as far as I'm aware, but still tourism numbers are considerably down compared to the norm.
Will be spending a week in January in The Gambia for the twentieth year!
Hot sun, little cloud, no rain and a lovely people. Personally can only recommend one hotel and that is the Laico Atlantic in Banjul. The country itself is a bit of a mess and we tend not to go out but chill for a week by the lovely pool and enjoy the hotel. Go Thos Cook or Gambia Experience.
you could always try on of the other islands. Usually that time of year, Canaries, Egypt and India are place that are usually warm.

January month is best month for holidays because weather is best in this month. You can try Goa, Singapore, Manila, Sydney and Lagos. These are best for holidays.
