I did years ago, but I have no idea whether it's possible now, you'll really have to get an up-to-date ruling from them.
here you go

When holidaying in Europe, you can even cross the border into another country for a sightseeing trip for example, you can use your Nice hire car to drive from France into Italy to go shopping in Milan - but remember, you'll need to have your passport and documents with you.

Was there no charge back then? Thanks for your quick reply, I did see that one sentence on their guide and thats what made me think they cant possible charge for it if they are essentially saying you can "pop over the border for shopping", but then I start thinking how surprised I am that they arent charging for something that other companies are!
my parents live in perpignan, but i invariably fly to girona because hire cars and fuel are both cheaper in spain. have taken spanish cars all over the region - including andorra - with no problems.
If you rent in Austria you are usually told that you can't take them into former Eastern Bloc countries.I imagine that it would be possible if you paid enough -I don't know why this is.
You will probably find their policy in the individual car details - since it might vary according to the type of car.

I'd be surprised if there's a charge - they are by reputation (if not in fact) on the expensive side and probably include it anyway

dzug2, I have looked in all the individual car policies when going through as if to book them and still no answer. I am concluding that it is possible and at no extra charge. (I hope) I have emailed them (again) asking for a definite answer but dont want to wait too much longer to book as I am going away in a few weeks time! Thanks for all your answers so far. I just like to be sure before I book and not be stung by other hidden charges!
Having started a dummy booking there's a tab 'rental qualification and requirements' under which there is a list of countries the car can be taken to (and some not)

As it doesn't mention a charge I like you would assume there isn't one, though not with 100% confidence
there was no charge when I did it. I went from France to Spain to Andorra and back again. But as I say, things change, so do make sure first. Have you tried phoning them?
Question Author
Yes tried phoning them at different times of the day and was always just stuck on holder for longer than I cared to stay!
I've hired rental cars in both Spain and Portugal and driven across the borders several times from both countries. I also spent three days driving around Gibraltar with a hire car from Spain. Each time I've told the hire firms I will probably be taking the car over the borders and they've always been happy and agreed that I can.

The company I've used more than once in Spain is HyperSpain and I use local firms in Portugal through Holiday Autos. I'm sure you'll be fine crossing into France and Andorra too.
don't forget andorra isn't a member of the EU, and strict duty-free allowances are in force. there are frequent customs checks and on occasions I've been stopped several miles after the border post for a search of the car.
