The good thing about flying is that there are no icebergs in the sky. ;o)
I love flying, but admittedly I've only been on a few short haul flights. To me it's part of the holiday.  I hate the thought of going on the ferry, I would hate it if the seas were rough. When we went to Disneyland Paris, we crossed the channel by Eurostar, and that was cool.
There's not that much between them. Whichever way you view the statistics (accidents as a percentage of the number of sailings/flights; fatalities per million passengers carried etc.) you are far more likely to be killed in the car on the way to the port/airport.
I am terrified of both - but choose flying as it's more convenient - but am terrified of ditching into the sea whereas on a boat I believe (some hope) that I could swim to safety
Always get a seat at the rear of a plane Neti. How many planes have you heard of that reverse into mountains!?
I'd much rather fly than go on a ferry, I'm no lover of the sea and would rather get over it as fast as possible.
No contest.  Fly every time.  It is more comfortable.  Quicker.  After you take into account the cost of meals etc it is often cheaper to fly.
