There are only 13 petrol stations on the whole island - you'll find the list here http://www.islas.co.uk/minorca_faq2.htm
The three 'gasolineras' in Mahon are located as follows:

Calle Cautivos De Constantinipla (CEPSA fuel, currently at €1.319 per litre of unleaded)

Calle Pintor Torrent, 10 (REPSOL, €1.318)

Carratera de Ciutadella de Mahon (BP, €1.319)

If you fill a car to the brim and drive 20 miles, the fuel gauge will still be reading full. I have regularly filled up and driven such distances when returning hire cars and never had any problems.

But check carefully that you are required to return the car fully fuelled; my last foreign car hire booking (made in the UK) stated that the car must be returned fuelled – but the local rental company advised that the pre-paid contract included a tank of gas.
There's ons at the airport Tom. When are you going? We're offf in 2 weeks, go every year and always hire a car.
Yes, Prudie's correct.

There's a gasolinera at the airport (Vial de Salida), open from 0700 to 0100:

Rather like Hymie I make note of prices within a 40km radius or so of the return point and then fill up accordingly thoroughly, depending on how far I need to go after filling. Stations nearest airports and such tend to be the most expensive, unless there is little or no price difference between stations as is the case in some areas/countries. Incidentally, lots of people clearly do the same (filling only to indicate full on return) because it is very evident that on taking charge of a hired car you often drive as little as 20km and the gauge starts to read less than full.

Thanks very much, everybody. We'll be in Cala Galdana next week (Yay!) Yes, Hymie, most firms do want you to pay for a whole tankfull but I found one exception - Sixt - who still use the old system of pick up full, return full.
