My daughter has just booked a holiday for the two of us to Marmaris next month.
Does anyone have any useful tips on Marmaris and interesting excursions in the surrounding area?

Thank you both. I tend to do DIY sightseeing, Trimeresurus. Had a very enjoyable meal in the Cap Horn in Copenhagen in April on your recommendation, Chris.
Son's pal went there last year for 2 weeks. Will ask his parents this week for their views and get back to you.
(They did have a very nice time by all accounts)

Thanks Alba
Don't know if it still exists, but there used to be a restaurant called the "School Restaurant" which was basically where all the chefs and waiters etc went to Catering school. the food was Fab and really reasonable.
Just had a thought (shurrup thank you) noraq is also qoing to Turkey in July, I don't know if she has been before or even if Marmaris is the destination but the more info the better.

It'll probably be Thursday before I find out tho Euphemia xx

Thanks Annie - I shall look out for it.
That's great Alba - I leave in three weeks. Will be glad to get away from these northern climes!
Maramaris has a lovely Marina if you keep walking east from the beach area and go right round the corner there are some bigger boats and some really nice restaurants mainly specialising in fish - bit of a change form the Schzintel and Pizza fare that can be the norn in some of the restaurants.
Most of Marmaris, to a large degree, has been ruined.

The tavernas in the most picturesque part of the town (round the port) are dominated by huge flat-screen TVs overlooking their outside areas. If there is any football on anywhere in the world it will be shown at full volume (just the job when you’re after a quiet meal after a day relaxing by the pool). The area of lanes behind the port contain one or two quieter more traditional establishments but the quaintest area immediately behind the port consists of a narrow lane containing what were fishermen’s’ sheds. Just about all of these have been converted to tatty bars with 200 decibel sound systems.

To the east of the centre of town, where most of the accommodation is, there is a nice promenade with a few tavernas overlooking the sea (but again with footy on the telly). At the far end of the town are such quintessentially Turkish establishments such as The Ibrox Bar, The Goodison Bar, The Old Trafford Bar and the Anfield Bar.

Of course it depends what you're looking for and we managed to have a nice time once we'd discovered where to go.But be prepared – quaint it aint!

Thank you Annie - that's useful info.
Thanks to you too New Judge. Fortunately, we shall be in a good hotel in a quiet area and perhaps the football season will be over. I shall be visiting the surrounding area quite a bit and the promised fine sunshine will be very welcome!
Very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Finally managed to ask son's pal, after deciphering the grunts (he is 17), he thoroughly recommends the water boats, water activites and mini-cruises. They had a wonderful time.

I hope you and your daughter too have a lovely time.
