I am wanting to go to Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia next year, but not sure which is the best time to visit in terms of the weather. I understand that Malaysia offers great temperatures all year round, but would like to be guaranteed the sunshine! Any suggestions?

Days are very warm with high humidity, as to be expected in a tropical climate. The main rainy season in the east runs between November and February, while August is the wettest period on the west coast. East Malaysia has heavy rains (November to February) in Sabah and in Sarawak. It is difficult to generalise about the country's climate, as rainfall differs on the east and west coasts according to the monsoon winds (northeast or southwest).... generally, rain can be expected frequently but showers - often intense - do not last for long...
I went to both in December 2007 for 3 weeks also went to Langkawi and Singapore, in the whole time I was there I had 1 overcast day and 1 torrential downpour. The rest of the time it was a steady 35 degrees and 70 -80% humidity and clear skies.... enjoy your trip.. you'll love it....
I went to Kuala Lumpar , Penang and Lankawi in January and the weather was fab - I wouldn't bother with Penang I thought it was bit over rated - Lankwawi was beautiful
