We have a week to spend between leaving Melbourne and arriving in Sydney.
Has anyone driven the coastal route between these cities, if so what were your thoughts regarding sites to see, accommodation on route or just whether it was fun to do. Any other suggestions on spending time in the southeast corner of Australia would be much appreciated.

Hello Cedelel. Cannot really help a great deal. Only to say we did the Coastal route Sydney to Melbourne about ten years ago. From memory it was quite a relaxing drive, despite being listed as a major road, I remember remarking to my wife on one occasion, "do you realise, we have not seen another car coming in the opposite direction for over three minutes. " Didnt book any accomodation, just stopped when we saw somwhere we liked. I also remember finding some great places to eat also a very nice golf course!! . What we didnt do, but should have, and that was take a side trip to Canbarra. I am sure you will enjoy it. Good luck.

Thank you. We have decided to bite the bullet and have booked the hire car today. From what you have said it sounds like we should have fun.

Take the Gippsland Highway when you leave Melbourne rather than the Princes Highway - it's more scenic and runs a lot nearer the coast. They join up again at Sale.

If you like hiking Wilson's Promontory is worth a visit.

Can't help with the NSW end.
