I suspect hiring a car would be cheapest and quickest - about 90 miles each way

There's a bus service that takes between 2 and 4 hours - I suspect depending on route and stopping points - maybe around £30+ each return

Run by a company called ALSA - they have a website in Spanish where you can book. My Spanish isn't good enough for the finer points of it.
oops sorry, misread your question.
Train service is superb.
There's a light railway service (TRAM Metropolitano de Alicante) from Benidorm to Alicante that takes around 1¼ hours. From there you could get a RENFE train to Valencia, which takes around 1 hour 50 mins.

Times and fares here

and here:

However, unless you hire a car, you'll realistically need to set aside a whole day to get to the ground, watch the match and get back again.

It's easier in English, Dzug2 ;-)
