But there is only one port in the back of the modem that goes into the router,so where would i run a second cable from? i would like them both wireless if possible.
So you have a PC and two laptops? Or ...
Two Laptops (with the router connected by ethernet cable to one of them?)

A cable runs from my modem into my router and my laptop picks the net up wirelessly (not conected by any cable) I bought a seconed laptop today and tried to conect that wirelessly at the same time as my old one but it would not work. However both pick up the net when run seperate.
Hope this makes sense?
You are using a Modem and a Router both connected together?
What models are they?
How does the modem connect up?
Question Author
motorola modem and bt voyager router.Yes the router is conected to the modem.
Explain the connections exactly.
One normally just connects to the web with an ADSL Router connected wirelessly or cabled through ethernet to one or more PC/laptops.
When you use a broadband router, most now have a modem, so you connect that to phone line. This makes the old USB modem redundant.
