Does multi format dual layer mean that the drive will burn disks?

Well, it COULD mean that it will only read such disks (although that's unlikely) but, as my post on your other thread indicates, all Sony VAIO models come with a DVD-writer. (The more expensive options come with a Blu-Ray writer).

Most DVD burners will burn a multi-layer DVD now.
Its the firmware (software in the player) or the software you use to burn that really matters.
