Trojans - how do we stop them or delete?

Recently, in the past week I have been getting a lot of trojans. AVG continually alerts me to their presence. I also have Spy-bot, and Ad-aware, all of which identify and delete several trojans. The problem I have is that no sooner do I delete them, they are back. I am having to run the checks on a daily basis, and then delete. I am also finding I get pop ups now, which did not use to happen. I have Windows XP Pro, and running Internet Explorer. The various trojans are Peopleonpage, autoupdate, powerscan etc.

The questions I have are: How do I stop them happening in the first place?

Why can I not delete them properly? I have used the add/remove programs facility for some, and spy-bot etc for others. Reading info on various websites, I appear to have removed these correctly, but still get the Peopleonpage one and autoupdate mostly. Is this something to do with system restore on XP?

Why do I now get pop ups which were prevented before? Have I somehow deleted some important file while deleting the trojans?

Any help anyone!???

Most antivirus programs miss lots of trojans so you need extra software in adition to Norton. There's a free trial available here:

To stop getting trojans in the first place, use a good firewall and consider moving away from Internet Explorer to a different browser. Lots of people recommend Mozilla Firefox.

To get rid of the trojans that you have, disable system restore and run an anti trojan prog (possibly with Windows XP in safe mode).

Also goto www.microsoft.com and download the antispyware beta software.

Empty your temporary internet files folder and all temp folders.

Shelle I used to have similar problems so I changed my browser to Firefox and switched my anti virus software from AVG to another free package called Anti Vir at this url www.free-av.com. Since making these changes I don't seem to have any problems with Trojans
