Second hand laptop

My laptop went terminally wrong the other day so just to tide me over until I can afford
a decent new one I have purchased a second hand "Asus" which is running Windows XP,
most pages open fine however some pages such as Google open in a small window, now I know you can make the page full size by clicking the maximisebutton at the top right hand corner of the screen but the next tme I log on the screen is back to small again so how do I get it to open in a large screen every time.

when you say pages do you mean programs? as in internet explorer always opens smaller?
