Loading music to I-Tunes

Please can anyone help. I have an Ion Tape 2PC which converts my tapes to I-Tunes and since I have upgraded to I-Tunes 9 each piece of music now converts at such a slow rate it is hardly worth doing. With I-Tunes 7 even a 45 minute piece was done in around seven minutes but now a ten second clip takes around fifty seconds. My system is Windows XP home edition and I have plenty of space left so it can't be that. My Ion software is also the latest so it ought to be compatible.
