is the site you are using expecting the date in American format? which swaps the day and month round.

as in, today is the 29/4/2010 but Americans would write it 4/29/2010
Might it be using the American format of mm-dd-yyyy and you were trying the English dd-mm-yyyy ?
there's not a little calendar for you to click on, is there? Sometimes (possibly for the reason Chuck indicates) sites want you to click on a date rather than write it out yourself.
or it might be expecting a certain amount of figures in each field, so you may have to put 29/04/2010

I cannot type anything at all in the box, the box stays blank
Also bibblebub makes a point....

anywhere you have to enter a date they normally indicate what format they are expecting, so it might say..

Please enter departure date (MM/DD/YYYY)

if it does make sure you keep to the format they indicate.
Can you give a link to the page or even just the site, or a screenshot?

ive booked holidays online before and its not just this site and never had this problem, but recently i installed norton and since then this problem has occurred, do you think that could have cause the problem
Are you sure there is not another field you need to update or enter BEFORE the date field become active.

Maybe you need to make some other selection first, then you can enter the date.

ill try that see if it works
Are you using the number key pad? If so, is the number lock on?
is your number lock on by accident?
Norton won't give that problem.
You can't be entering it right.
