Hi I have an HP Pavillion that I stopped using about 8 months ago as the Hard drive was about to die.

Can I just replace the hard drive and install windows 7 on it or is there something more complicated involved.

I don't require any of the data on it.

Just make sure you get a hard drive with the correct connector on it, either SATA or IDE (IDE is otherwise Known as PATA or just ATA)

Thanks both.
With all respect; if you don't know how to replace a hard drive, how did you discover that your old one is about to die.
Maybe he did an error check in Windows and found bad sectors
or it was noisy maybe.

Wildwood I don't do hardware per se I am however about to learn.

The pavillion is just sitting there so I am going to have a "go" :-) if it doesn't work I will lose a few quid.

I had a major failure and got it repaired but was told told the HD was on its way and I should be looking to replace.

I got a new machine and the old one is now a learning project.

Thanks for all old answers
