Avast and internet connection problem...

A friend has lost their wireless broadband internet connection.

They can see the 'available networks' but not connect to any of them. They tried to 'repair the network connection' which couldn't be completed as 'Windows couldn't connect to the network'. They were advised to call their Network Manager who told them to 'disable Avast' as this could be causing the problem.

Prior to this problem the internet connection has been working fine. Is disabling Avast recommended? Why all of a sudden would Avast be preventing an internet connection that up until now was working fine?

Thanks

So...Having uninstalled Avast as requested by the chap at the end of the phone and found this made absolutely no bloody difference whatsoever, I've turned the computer ont his morning and miraculously it's connecting to the network. I've had a call from them and told them that I am re-installing Avast. I've reinstalled avast and now I have a little orange ball turning circles rather than the little blue ball I previously had. I'm just wondering if this means I'm less protected than previously or if I've downloaded the wrong virus stuff?

Any helpw would be really appreciated.
