Exactly one year ago I bought this camera so the warranty is no longer valid. When I switch on the camera, the viewing "window" lights up for 1 or 2 seconds, then the camera switches itself off. I've tried new batteries. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be wrong, please?

Had same....was due to not using camera batteries; ordinary ones dont seem to have correct power. Buy camera batteries at Currys or IT shop.

Thanks tamborine I will take the camera to the shops tomorrow and try proper camera batteries and let you know how I get on.

Got new batteries but that wasn't the main problem, noticed the shutters at the front were trying to open so had a little push at the rings round the shutters (with a wooden toothpick) and that seems to have sorted it out meantime. It's my grand-daughters camera and I think she has dropped it and put things out of place slightly. At least I know what to do if the problem arises again!
its not un-necessary expense buying camera batteries; charge 'em up overnight and the proper power should make all work better.
