Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can help, we have been trying (without success) to find out how many hours of usage we will get for 1gb if the system is only used for making skype to skype video calls.

I have asked vodaphone who said they don't know, and 3 instead of telling me, offered me discount codes for when we bought it!

I am hoping someone one here has actual first hand knowledge PLEASE!
Many Thanks

That's because it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question.

The Skype feed uses compression, such that if you record a background that's a pure colour, it'll take up less room when being sent down the pipes than with a busy background. It'll also (I assume) use temporal compression, such that if you keep still in front of the camera will result in it taking up less room down the pipes than if you're constantly moving about.

From googling about, 1 minute of Skype (just phone) usage is about 0.5 MB. At this rate, you'd get about 33 hours' usage with your 1GB.

I can't find any details about video though. Safely assume that it's 1 MB (at least) per minute. You'll get about 15 hours' usage (conservative estimate) at this rate.
