After 20 years i am having to source my own mobile phone, at present it seems a minefield with numerous offers. I simply want to make a limited number of calls, and be aware what it is costing me, can anyone advise my best plan of attack, just as a note, i have no desire to spend my time texting.

Look on ebay for a cheap and cheerful used and unlocked handset... then get yourself a PAYG sim card for free from one of the network providers...
^ Pay As You Go.
Tescos have mobiles for 9.99 & pay as you go chips for 5 - great deal!
Pay as you go - 18, with 10 of calls included

If you can get an unlocked mobile phone just buy and fit a Sim card from ASDA for 49pence. The calls will then cost you 8p per minute after buying a 5.00 top up.
