i have a toshiba satillite laptop about 3 years old and when it starts up it goes to a screen that says your computer failed to start properly etc then asks if i want to start in safe mode or at the last time it worked properly etc. when i start it in any of these modes it goes to steart up yet goes back to this black and white screen. i cant even put a new windows disc and run it. Also how do i enter in to the bios to set it to run from cd rom

Most Toshiba laptops will go into the BIOS by holding down the ESC key when powering up.

Have you tried to strat your computer in safe mode?
During the booting time hit F8 key to go in safe mode.
You need to do check disk in safe mode.
> Open the command prompt and run the command
"chkdsk /r".
It will recover all error of your hard drive.
when you power on the computer hold down the ESC key from the keyboard.

when you enter into the bios mode make the cd/dvd rom as the first drive and the hard drive as the second drive.

put the cd into the cd rom and start the computer.
installation will start.
