desktop icons

Booted up the laptop this morning and all the icons on the desktop have disappeared:( any ideas?? (o/s vista)

Right-click the desktop, point to View, and then click Show Desktop Icons.

if it's only the system Icons you had on the desktop and they have disappeared then try....

Right click on desktop
click on personalise
left hand side click on change desktop icons
tick all the icon boxes

Try this.

Go to Control Panel \ Personalize (or right-click on the desktop and select Personalize), and then choose the link for "Change Desktop Icons" on the left-hand side.

Try ticking/unticking and re-ticking the boxes and the apply and OK.

once again thankyou for your replies but still no joy..the only icon that came on the desktop when i turned laptop on was an ebay icon and that came as stand when i bought it..the icons that are missing are mozilla/realplayer etc :(

This worked for me in XP but dont know about vista.

Last time this happened to me I had a Trojan.

Try ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up task manager

Then Applications > New Task

Type in the box explorer.exe > Ok

and you should be up and running.

Then run your antispyware and see if it detects any nasties. In my case it was Virtumonde.
