40 or 60 gig is not uncommon for MP3 players. I have an Archos MP3 recorder which has a 80 gig hard drive and I hear there is soon to be a 100 gig available. I have about 30 gig of MP3's on my Archos which leaves a fair amount of space for important back up files, a couple of DVD films and a few photos. You can easily fill it up if your not carefull.

There are far better MP3 player/recorders on the market than iPod (IMHO), its just that iPod spend a lot more money marketing them. Its a case of fashion over function.

I wouldnt swap my Archos for an Ipod. also take a look at I-River
I have the original 40Gb IPod (no battery problems fortunately) and it is completely full and only about a third of my record collection has been ripped thus far - ann onto that a digital photo album of about 20Gb and I am looking forawrd to the day when I can have a portable media player with a 200Gb storage capacity

the only point for such large storage in my opinion is for video as well as audio as seen on the portable media centres or archos'

40gig just for audio ?! imagine the fun when it goes wrong and you find that all files have been lost !!!!!
