I use a microsoft lifecam vx-3000 which is fine when I want to Skype
I have noticed that if I shut down my pc (XP+SP3) properly, and then boot up again I can turn the cam back on ok, if I hibernate and then turn the pc back on, the cam wont work, also once I have hibernated and then tried to use the cam I cant shut my pc down in the usual way, I have to press the power button for 5 seconds, then when I boot up the cam will work again, I have looked at the camera settings but all looks ok to me, I know it's easy to say "don't use hibernate" but I find it useful so would like to find out why the cam affects the pc in this way

I doubt your going to get many people saying that they can successfully hibernate there computer in answer to this.

I have very rarely seen hibernate work properly on XP, often they won't wake up again, and if they do it's never reliable.

best advice, stop using hibernate.
