Generally, according to a speed checker my broadband runs at a speed between 3.5 and 5 Mbits. I'm currently paying for up to 8. If I was to drop my subscription to a speed of up to 4, would the speed levels currently achieved be retained, or would the provider reduce the speed pro rata?

There can be many reasons as to why you are not receiving the data speed you are paying for. Local line conditions may have a relevance. Is the service provided over local copper cable pairs, local fibre network? Is your telephone line DACCS'd? if so check with BT. From which local exchange is the service provided (how far away)
Best of luck

Thanks for your speedy reply. However I'm not in the UK although I believe it works the same all over
My query is ; as I've got a speed i.t.r.o. 4Mbits and I was to drop to a subscription of 4Mbits(half the price!!) Would I retain speeds similar to what I'm getting now or will the Provider slow the speed down?
