I am not familiar with your breed of printer but all the printers I've used did not come with an USB cable and employ the standard USB cable, not one with a mini b5 plug.
Did this cable come with your printer?????

thank you for your reply, no the cable didnt come with the printer it came with the camera, ive also tried another cable but even this doesnt work, trisha 2008
This is rather puzzling. Most printers use a standard A-type to B-type USB cable. The B-type plug is a squarish one with the top corners rounded, this goes in the back of the printer somewhere. The A-type is the one that goes into the normal USB port of the computer.

hi wildwood thanks for your reply, i feel such a fool asking for help as ive just been told that my digital camera does not have a picbridge this why the cable isnt working, perhaps this will help someone else to make sure they have the right camera for the job and dont believe all the salesman tell you. thanks again trisha2008
