hi i visisted this site to see this effect

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/ligh tbox/index.htm

and whilst they pop up over the website in firefox, in my ie it seems to start to do it then open the image in a new page so you have to hit the back button to go back to the site rather then overlaying it.

I am sure this is a fault with my actual IE, as it seems to be misbehaving a bit.. it is the latest version 7 on a brand new machine.

do i have to tag somethign in ie to allow me to do it.

any suggestions as to why it might be doing this.

thanks

also just so no one points this out... yes i have made sure that the pop up blocker is not enabled. it is definately off i checked.
Sounds as if you have disabled scripting in IE.
Assuming IE7:
Tools/Internet Options
Security tab

either
Custom Level
Enable scripting of Java Applets
or
Default level

Incidentally, I think this one is better and more useful :-)

hey rojash.

did as you suggested, and it was actually already enabled. however, the scripting button was set to disabled. so enabled that and now it works..../

my brothers machien also had this issue. is this a standard settin for IE7, cos if it is then it is not worth puting this ont eh site is it cos it means everyoen will have the same issue.

????
"is this a standard settin for IE7"

Not in my experience. I had to experiment with the settings in IE to get it to NOT work, just so that I could answer your question.

There are loads of very popular sites that use this technique - including a lot of e-commerce sites.
