Installation of programmes

I have a new HP laptop (Windows Vista) and would like to install various programmes such as Encyclopaedia Britannica and Websters World Encyclopedia 2002 but they won't install. Can anyone help please? TIA

There are problems with older programs that worked under XP not working under Vista.

You may need to go to the web sites for the various programs and see if the offer updates, patches or new versions to allow them to work under Vista.

This is part of the problem why Vista was so badly received when it came out.
You could also try right-clicking the appropriate setup program, and choosing "Run as Administrator". Or temporarily turn off UAC (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/System Configuration - on the Tools tab click Disable UAC)

Thank you very much, Rojash, for your help. I disabled UAC as you suggested and I have now been able to install several programmes.
