Does anyone know how these modern high-tech super-absorbent towels should be washed?

Technology isn't really the best place to ask this! home and garden would have been better!

But, unless the washing instructions on the label says different then I'd give them a 40c wash with a decent quality detergent and fabric softener and to enhance the softness it often helps once a month or so to give the towels a second quick wash straight after with no detergent just fabric softener.

Thanks for your help (but in the Home & Garden section there's a warning about using fabric softener stuff!

Yes, you shouldn't use fabric conditioner with towels of any kind
