Are you sharing the laptop with other users, if so its probably just your profile you need to click on.

If you have a network adaptor with either a wireless connection or LAN cable connection, then just trying pressing the enter key when the challenge appears.
We need a bit more info.

Is it a new laptop, and if so new or second hand?

What version of Windows?

Has it always asked you to logon or has it just started?

Does anyone else use it (who may have added password protection)?

It is used.It Is Windows xp Professional. The person I got it from gave me the username but can't remember the password. It is a Dell.Spmeone told me if I put it in safe mode I could change the password but I don't know how to do that.Any ideas? Thanks
If you can't obtain the password form the original owner, tyhen really the only way you have of changing the password is to remove the battery inside the PC and then to get access to the BIOS next time you start up and enter a new passowrd, or bypass the password function altogether.

If you are not technically minded, that all may be rather difficult for you. Is there a local PC shop or someone who can help you do this?
sorry web ... but not so - if it's the windows password
if it's the bios ... removing the battery will start the process ... but if it's a big backup capacitor .. it could take 3 months to discharge

with a desktop it's far easier ... there is generally a link or pins

the only way is to use a password reset disk ... or to rebuild the machine
Maybe so AC, but I think we are all rather clutching at straws here, and anything is worth a try at this stage. If its not successful, then weeniek has limited, and I suspect expensive options!
