havnt used an e71 but the iphone
WONT let you forward texts
WONT let you text photos (email only)
wont let you receive texted photos (only email or by checking your O2 account online)

not sure about the 3g but the old iphones we had suffered a lot of software problems and froze up many a time. Have only had 3g for a couple of weeks.
