yes you can, if you want to use sky and freesat at the same time you will need to change the LNB (the thing on the end of the pole on the dish) to a quad one so you can get two cables from it, if you just want to use freesat alone then just plug the existing lead into the freesat box.

cheers matey.so it will already be pointing in the right direction?
I may be wrong here but i thought Freesat was just the package you purchased from sky -20 for 3 years and you get all the freeview programmes plus a few more..........no extra cables or LNB's required.

It should be pointing in the right direction. Just ring sky for a card, or you may even get some already with just the sky decoder box connected up.

i dont have sky .The dish was left by the previous owner of the house.
So I presume you meant a freeview box?? Not a freesat box, as like i said freesat is the 'freeview' style package that sky offer.
BSKYB have nothing to do with Freesat. And they are rather miffed about it. There are no SKY channels on it.

no freesat is nothing to do with sky, it is a service offered by the BBC and ITV, similar to freeview but recieved via satalitte dish

yes the dish will be pointing in the right place, both freesat and sky come from the astra2D collection of satellites

I wasn't trying to be a clever know it all as i wasn't aware of the freesat other than what sky offered..............

Hope you get it working chippy, sorry i wasn't much help.
just get the box and plug it in to the existing dish and all will be good assuming the dish and cable is still in good condition

lol squirtle. cheers for your efforts.
Sky have had service called Freesat for about 2 or 3 years. See here

http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

This is where you have a Sky dish and Sky box but pay no monthly subscription and get just "free" channels (about 200)

Now BBC and ITV have also announced a Freesat service where you can use an existing Sky dish (or pay to have a dish put up) plus a BBC/ITV Freesat box.

This also subscription free once everything is fitted.

There are no Sky channels on the BBC / ITV Freesat service,.

This is where all the confusion comes in, two people using the name Freesat.
just to add, if you wait a few months humax who make a FREESAT receiver is bringing out a box with a hard drive in and you will be able to record in HD as well as standard

just to let kind folks know it does work and i have been enjoying football in hd this week.
