How do I remove anti virus 2008?

Hi there, i was looking for a free anti virus software online, when i seem to have picked up anti virus 2008. This has caused endless problems, and keeps prompting me to pay for the full version. It would appear that once installed the programme will consantly cause problems and prompt you to pay for the full version. This has stopped me going online, stops many programmes operating, and i now understand it is a malicious virus in it self. Can anyone please advise how antivirus 2008 can be removed from my computer? It does not show on add or remove programmes in control panel, and i cant seem to take the computer back in time.
Hope you can help, I am having to use someone elses computer to ask this question.
