ACtheTroll, Buenchico,Vehelpfulguy, Fo3nix and Ethel - thank you to you guys for all your invaluable help. I've learned and benefited from many of your answers to questions posted by many people. Unfortunately, most never have the courtesy to report if the advice they received was helpful, or say thank you.

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all!!! xxxxx

Me too - it always surprises me when people go to a lot of trouble to give helpful and informative answers, and the poster of the question does not even acknowledge the reply. Shame on them! Even though I haven't posted the original question, I often feel like I want to thank the people who respond with very thoughtful replies. Guess it must just be the way we were brought up!
And me, I`ve learned so much from this site, both from asking questions and just browsing the site.
I would never dream of asking a question and not acknowledging the answers, but I do notice when I`m browsing how many people don`t bother with a simple thanks.
I read many Forums and this Is a common situation.
So I need to agree with statments here,
Many thanks for this post, Figure.

I do feel slightly frustrated with the lack of feedback from some questioners. That's not because I'm seeking praise (although it's always welcome!) but simply because I'd like the chance to provide additional information if my original post didn't completely 'hit the mark'.

Since we're handing out praise, can I mention a few people whom I particularly respect on AB?

You've mentioned ACtheTroll. My only complaint about him (or her?)is the totally inappropriate choice of screen name. 'Troll' is often taken to mean someone who posts abusive, argumentative and unhelpful posts. AC is exactly the opposite! ;-)

Vehelpfulguy, Fo3nix and Ethel are also among my 'star contributors', as is Clanad (and many others whom I'd remember if I wasn't half-way through the final can tonight!) but my real 'hero', on AB, is the wonderful Dzug. I often post long-winded answers, spreading across several posts, whereas Dzug has mastered the art of precs and provides exactly the same information (or better) in a few short sentences.

Talking of Ethel, he seems to have gone missing from here recently.

Anyone know why ?

I get it quite often on the security forums I work at. I spend hours of my own time removing all the bad stuff from someones computer and they cant even offer a simple thank you.

Thankfully, most arent like that and are very appreciative of the time we, and the regular helpers here, put in.
LOL .... and blush!!

Buenchico - I'm a fat bloke getting older by the minute ...
the troll nym is just a bit of a joke...I'm a yorkshire man and we are generaly well known for our diplomatic soft approach ;-) .... and as an avid terry pratchett fan ... detritus is my hero

as I keep saying ... I instruct various techy stuff - so as a break from the serious stuff - (during the day) I try to get my guys to answer the questions here ... it's good for their souls ... breaks the tension and gives them an idea of the sort of stuff doing the rounds.

the lack of replies .... I'm used to that ... I used to teach bomb disposal .... I never hear from them either ......? ;-)

A reply would be nice ... we all sit typing away ... my ego isn't bothered so much about thanks ... I'd just really like to know if I'm right (unless I'm not ... in which case ... keep it to yourself ;-).

as for ethel ... I hope she's gone somewhere warm for the winter ... and not bought a farm.

Don't know if you guys know about the new AB, but, should in case you don't, here's the link so you all can register and join in. Couldn't do without all your valuable and helpful inputs you know! ;-) http://s1.zetaboards.com/Answer_Bank/index/

I'm afraid Ethel was having tests for an illness called Myasthenia Gravis and was due to see a specialist for her condition. Her eyesight was deteriorating quite badly just before she stopped posting. I hope if and when she recovers she will be back with us once more answering everyones obscure questions as only Ethel could.
What would us technophobes do without you all, Buenchico has helped me successfully on a number of occasions and I too feel the lack of courtesey is sadly lacking not only on Answerbank but in general.Figure I think I smell a RAT but hope I am wrong.
