Most of my songs have disappeared from my iTunes list.

I daren't connect my iPod to the computer or it will wipe the songs off my iPod. It seems the only way I can re-set my loading of the iPod to manual is by connecting it to computer but as soon as I connect it will automatically synchronise with iTunes.

Is there any way to get the iTunes list back off my iPod?
