Long ago someone told me that if anything with Electronic Chips in it breaks down, before dumping it try wrapping it in clingfilm and stick it in the deep freeze for a few days.
It has certainly worked on a few things, my freeview box being one of them which fairly regularly is resurrected this way
I know it works but anyone know why ?

Most electronic equipment have RAM memory inside that stores the settings, if yuo cool to certain temperatures the ram is wiped and factory settings are restored when you plug it in next time.
Be carfeul doing this as sometimes ice can form inside and there is a danger of electric shock when you plug it back in
