Has anyone ever purchased one of those Media players that you can plug a laptop 2.5inch hard disk into. The ones that can be connected to your TV and the files stored on the hard disk can be viewed such as video files, music and photos.

Here is an example commonly found on eBay.

How well do they work? Do they play all AVI files (as to my knowledge different AVI files require different codecs)? Ease of use? etc...
