Sony Ericsson k610im phone not synching with my PC?

I have just bought a Sony Ericsson K610im phone. I have installed the disc that comes with it onto my computer to be able to transfer files, songs, photos etc. When you put the USB cable into to the phone & PC it asks to choose whether to be in file transfer mode or phone mode. Everything works fine when in transfer mode. However, when I chose phone mode the PC does not recognise the phone � as if I haven't connected it! I have no idea how to sort this out or what may be wrong! I have emailed Ericsson, but they can take ages to reply, so wondered if anyone on here had some advice?! Thank you!
