Window Defender

I have a problem with a new window that keeps popping up in XP when I open up my PC. It roughly starts 'Application failed to initalise caused by Windows Defender'. It says to close down and start again, but it always appears every time I open up. How can I get rid of it this window? I can close the box down and then my PC opens fine.
