Connecting a laptop to TV

When i try to connect my laptop to the tv using the s-video socket, the picture appears in Black & White.I'm connecting it with a scart lead, and no matter what video or tv i try to watch my dvd through it still remains in B & W...any tips?I'm in Europe and a couple of my friends have had the same prooblems. help please!

I've seen this and it was cured by cycling through the AV options on the TV (I kept pressing the AV button on the remote till I got a colour picture).
