Can one download a video clip from youtube? And if one can does one need a DVD writer, or a CD writer?

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me detailed instructions on how to carry out this task.

Try this . . .
Open www.youtube.com
Then select the video you wish to save, and RIGHT click on the still picture
Then click on COPY SHORTCUT
Then PAST SHORTCUT onto your desktop
To watch the video simply click the icon
That doesn't save the clip though - it just puts a shortcut to youtube, so you would have to be online to watch it.
Ethel. Thanks for your response. But Iiam sure if you save the clip to desktop, or indeed put it into a folder, you can click on it and view it anytime without effectively going online. Alternatively burn it to CD. I think I am right!
Tried it, as explained. When I clicked on the shortcut on my desktop it opened my browser and youtube.

When I disconnected the internet connection, the shortcut would not work - it could not find a connection.

sir.prize's suggestion will not work, as Ethel points out.

anotheoldgit:

goto youtube, and find the film you want. copy the url, such as something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbOZL8sIpT8

Now go to another website, http://keepvid.com . Paste the link there and press download. Right-click the 'download link' link that appears, and click save as, and save it to your desktop. It'll be a .flv file, which can be played with players such as VLC. If you want to convert it to another format, you could try a program such as SUPER. This program will also let you convert to a DVD file.

Note though that the quality of videos from youtube et. al. are pretty poor, and will likely look terrible on a TV.
Wish I could also give you points for this answer. It worked great. Thanks!
You can use Ant Video Downloader in downloading videos off your browser and you will need a converter for you to be able to play it in other media player. anyways, the video you have download with ant toolbar works with any video converter.
