PC will not shut down ???

When My PC is shutting down it says it is saving any settings i have done etc. Then it says it is shutting down , But it does not. I end up having to turn it off at the wall plug to switch it off.. Anyone know how to cure it ??? I have reset my PC to an earlier time & checked for any nasties etc.. But no Joy !!! Grrr...

I had a the same problem which I found to be caused by a new USB modem.Once I replaced it, no more problem.

Similar case here, but I have windows '98. Every now and again, "Windows is shutting down" appears, but it dosen't. I terminate power. On starting up, I get the blue screen etc. What should I do ?
