Does anybody know of UK based site for family records? Most I have visited seem to be from USA, and it appears that unless your relatives emigrated there the search is fruitless. Of the UK sites I have keyed in (various names) exact dates/location of birth etc yet all display countless people (similar name) but never spot on. Do they not want you to locate your family member(s) or is it a case of "show us your money!" then we might give you correct details?

try www.familysearch.org and www.freebmd.org.uk

Family search is from the sates, Church of Latterday saints I believe, freebmd is an official thing, but I believe the details are transposed by people serving custodial sentences, so if they cant make something out they dont care enough to ensure its correct

Thanks jmah - will try freebmd. visited familysearch yesterday, but drew a blank (tried a bit of bible bashing).

It all looked so easy on "Who do you think you are?"

I'm willing to pay as long as I get a fair deal!

Thanks n00dles xxx

have you tried www.genesreunited.com it is quite helpful and i found some long lost relatives on there. i think the yearly membership is 7.50 but that is only if you want to contact people.
Try 1837online.com (5 for 50 downloads but searches are free ) and britishorigins.co.uk (5 for 72 hrs) also cwgc.co.uk (for war graves and free)
All good sites.
I hope this helps
