When is 3G likely to be switched off? If it's regional, we're in East Anglia and OH has a 3G flip up phone.

It's already happening, and is likely to be complete by the end of the year. Your OH should consider a handset upgrade ASAP.

Vodafone switched off 3G last year, affecting not only their own customers but those of services which 'piggy back' onto their netwoork (i.e. Lebara Mobile, Asda Mobile, Talk Mobile and VOXI).

EE also switched off 3G last year (affecting users of Your Co-op, 1p Mobile, Utility Warehouse, Ecotalk, Lycamobile and BT Mobile).

Three has completed the switch off of 3G across most of the UK (affecting users of ID Mobile, Smarty, Freedompop and Superdrug Mobile).

O2 is switching off 3G this year (affecting users of Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff and Sky Mobile).

A lot of 3G phones will still be able to be used for calls and texts after the switch off using 2G.

2G will be switched off within the next 8 years but no dates as yet
